Hi there:

I'm posting a pic of an American Patriot pen I made for a friend who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom with a segmented blank I made to replicate the colors/pattern of the service ribbon.

Based on sound advice from a couple of you (and thank you for that) I did not sand before finishing so as to minimizing any bleed from the ebony into the holly. The middle section is myrtle. Still, I can see some slight discoloration in the holly that think was from the blue paper towel I used to clean the blank before applying CA. Anyway, I'm generally pleased with the results but, being new, appreciate any comments.

Thanks!
Russ

Russ you did a fine job on that pen. With all the different materials used in that pen you did well. I like to use Viva paper towels. They are white and nice and soft but also strong. I do not use towels with any patterns of any kind. I am sure this pen will be appreciated for sure. Good job.:)

Very nice pen that I'm sure will be kept as a keep sake for many years. I do have to admit that your pen has inspired me. I've been tasked with making a pen/knife set for the upcoming Veterans drawing at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation dinner. It's one of only a very few organizations that recognize Veterans at their annual dinner. I will be donating this set but have been struggling with the pen. You've given me some ideas for sure. Thank you.
