Nice pen, I did the same thing for my family members a few years ago. I turned twenty -three pens, the wood came from the old homestead house. The house was in bad shape, and they finally decided to tear it down, it should have been taken down a few years ago. They all liked their pens, and most of them still have them.

I have turned 22 total, all Euro style slimlines and that is how I learned to turn pens. The very first pen I turned was a piece of poplar to see what I thought. The next one was a beautiful, wormy, spalted, knotted piece of the Chestnut. Wife kept both of those. 20 more Chestnut and a final one from 2 different half blanks that the mate blew apart on me. Now I hooked.
