I thought it looked kinda special.

What do ya'll think???
We got some of these ambrosia maple blanks
for exotics. When I turned this one, I was pretty
impressed. Yes, we do have some available on
the site.

Thanks for looking and any comments!

It looks like the blank was angle cut? The color or spalting presents a much more dramatic effect when crosscut. It becomes more difficult to turn unless it is stabilized. That one look pretty darn good though.

I have found that I like the Ambrosia much better as a bowl item in most cases. I guess liking Ambrosia or not liking it is all in the eyes of the one using it.

Kinda like one type of car against another? I ain't getting in the other squabble in this thread ... although now may be agood time for Ed to develop a better mouse trap!

The "Resinator" for a reason

Yes, it is stablilized. Turned pretty easily. But then, I don't turn much wood.

I like ambosia, but like someone else said, mostly for bowls. The pen looks good too,
but the size of the spalting might be overpowering the pen a little. Smaller spalted
areas should show it off more.

I prefer curly ambrosia. And I like a more purplely gray color in the streaks. Here is one like I am talking about that I did last year.

I wouldn't really classify ambrosia as an exotic, but then again it's all over the place in VA. I guess 'exotic' depends on where you're from...you did a good job with it, but there are similar looking woods with more stunning qualities I'd say.

Nice pen.

Hey Ed, Do you guys sell the pen wizard? I am thinking about getting one soon!

I like the wood on bowls..I like it on pens..it's harder to get it to look good on the small palette of a pen, but can be stunning if it is the right blank

THANKS for asking!!!

Nice pen.

No, we don't sell the pen wizard. I did a demo on mine for our local group, but it was just "informational". Advertise that you want one, I suspect you will find someone here will sell theirs after using it for a while.

FWIW:eek::eek:

I definitely like it!

You might get the maple color to pop a bit more by burning on a coat of BLO, or several applications of BLO. I don't know if the BLO will help on a stabilized blank or not though.
