Sorry but I figured it was faster asking here than trying to search every library article on this. I understand turning segmented with thin aluminum strips don't take any special tools but I'm considering putting in a couple 1/4 to 1/2 " strips into a segment and was wondering if they are going to stress the surrounding wood or turn just as easy? I'm imagining coming off the aluminum and doing a major catch on a relatively soft material. Any and all advice is appreciated.:confused:

I haven't used woods, but I haven't had any problems with acrylics. I take off only a little at a time though. I just hold my hand against the tool rest to guide it straight across.
 
I've only used Gorilla epoxy and I sanded the aluminum really well and cleaned it with acetone before gluing it.
I think I used 220 grit sandpaper. I made sure not to touch the sanded areas after sanding and cleaning.

Someone else may have a better way or better product to use.

I find it easier to work my skew from wood towards aluminum, especially if it is thick. I also never sand....just skew and finish. Otherwise, aluminim dust in the wood. CA can help prevent this, buy you will still get some. I'm just very cautious with my last skew pass....and make sure it's razor sharp on a stone. Hope this helps.
