Alumilite question

The Clear Alumilite was designed, with my help, to be able to polish better. Some folks say it still does not polish quite as well as PR but that is quite subjective. When I was testing it for Alumilite, I did a black blank with PR and a black blank with Alumilite Clear. I glued them both together and turned and finished them as one. I asked my wife which side had better gloss and she said she could not even tell there were different sides, let alone a difference in gloss.

That said, if the blank has something else in it such as my cactus blanks or worthless wood blanks, then you really need a CA finish to protect the other material.

Counter point to Curtis .....

I wouldn't say that PR polishes better than Alumilite... I would say that like any other materials, each has a different feel/process. I tend to turn alot more PR than Alumilite - so its not that it doesn't polish up as nice, but that its 'different'. I'm sure Curtis, who does Alumilite much more has no issues, but for me its a bit more work.

I relate it to a CA finish on different woods.... Its the same CA, but some woods cause much more work to get the same finish.
