Evelyn was coming home late from work the other night and just about a deer. In the area of Hampton, VA we live it's not uncommon to see deer near the road. We have both come very close to hitting a deer and it would be kind of hard explaining it to our insurance company... You see it was deer crossing our driveway. Here is picture of one helping it self to our apples, the tree is in our side yard.

Let it go for another year. Get the older brother.

It matters not WHERE you hit them but how HARD you hit them. The insurance company expect to pay off on nature accidents. That is part of the reason the rates are what they are.

I prefer smoking the tenderloin. That is good eating.

The picture proves many of those deer hunters who come home empty handed are looking in the wrong place, or they need to hunt near apple trees. From my remarks you can tell i am not a hunter. Just kidding

We see deer around out house most of the year. They come to eat from our apple trees, figs or in years past just about anything we planted in our garden. Our grandkids get a big kick out of see them. There is no hunting were we live so they are fairly safe. Here's a few more picks

We, like you, have deer around the house most of the year and enjoy seeing them. We have one corner of the backyard that they like to bed down in during the day.

A salt block will also draw them in.

You say there is no hunting in the area you live. That is great however, they can become a problem to the point that wildlife managment will have to allow special permits to thin the herd.

I love to watch deer and other wildlife. But I also like to eat wild game and lean meats. That is what my doctor says I should eat. Buffalo, Deer, Elk, Etc........
You know how expensive eating like that is? Chicken, Turkey is fine......but I need my red meat. LOL.

Wildlife interactions can be fun , or dangerous and costly . On the fun side , we spent half an hour last night , 2 feet from a skunk , porch light on , watching it chow down on a dish of dry cat food on our front step . Course , there were 3 panes of glass between us . After 20 minutes or so , 2 cats ventured up , and decided it would be safe to eat from another bowl about 5 feet away .

The dangerous side was driving at 15-20 mph down my long driveway , and having to jam on the brakes to allow one moose to go left and one to go right .

The costly one was the deer that came over the guard rail and totalled a car .

The dangerous and costly one was was taking delivery of a moose hit by an oncoming vehicle , and administering last rights to it with it`s head in my lap .

The best place to hunt deer is along side the road,
down from the sign that reads "DEER CROSSING"

This was from not almost hitting a raccoon!

The best part of the story was talking to the insurance adjuster.

"I hit a raccoon this morning".

"Did it run out in front of you?":confused:

This was one of the few times I was speechless!
Wanted to say "No I was chasing it across the field. Doing good until it ran up a tree!"

$1000 raccoon strike.
