Recently two scouts I worked with for many years earned their Eagle Scout.

I made these pens for them to commemorate the event.

They are made from a Live oak that blew down in my neighbors yard.

The Oak Tree is the symbol for this particular troop.

Here they are boxed for delivery.

Both are designer/euro with Gunmetal hardware. The pen on the bottom, I overturned the upper barrel so I saved with a replacement center band segment in walnut.

Finish is 10 coats of CA sanded to 600, Brasso, then maguires carnuba gold wax.

Bottom pen will be delivered this week, top pen next month at their respective Eagle Court of Honor

Thanks, it can be tricky and your tools need to be very sharp to avoid tear and blow outs out when cross cut like these were.

This wood aged for almost a year and was quite hard when turned.

:usflag:Nicely done. You answered my concern about making sure the wood was dry before turning. Have you considered having their names engraved on the pens.

some pens for my Son's Scout Sniper Platoon, the engraved names were a big hit.

I hadn't really thought about the engraving, but now you've got me thinking.

I'll have to check into it. Since one is due tomorrow, I may not have time.
