I couldn't handle my last new job. I didn't mind the work, but the pay and hours were ridiculous! I never knew when I started work, I'd have to call them at 10am, then they tell me the time which was going to be between 7pm and 2am start time, then I go load truck, drive, unload go back unload, reload drive, unload reload, all friggin night on a percentage basis, but no control over what the load would be or be worth, so I'd be lucky to make $12/hr when it was all said and done and if I didn't fall asleep and die. I can't handle a job where I am up for several hours before work, and there was no way to sleep before work. I need to sleep, get up go to work then come home and have a few hours relaxing before doing it all over again. It was killing me so I quit.

Now I finally got a normal job! I'm working for Ryder. I'll be delivering auto parts, no touch freight. It pays by the hour, starts around 5-6am and is a normal 8.25 hr shift. It's a union job with the teamsters after 90 days, with excellent benefits and paid holidays. I only will be driving 1.5 miles about 12 times a day..I like that, that's like 6 trips from Ryder to GM and back..lots of sitting around waiting for them to load truck and unload truck. Ryder does all the GM sort work of the parts, so all the parts GM uses to make a car come to Ryder first, then we run the parts to GM in the order they are needed, and the GM plant is only 1.5 miles away. We also pick up some parts from a few local suppliers, but they are also all in the same zone. I've done work like this, I really like it, it's very relaxing and non stressful..yea it's lazy man work, but I am a lazy man! I already aced my driving test and am scheduled tomorrow for the doctor to grope me and pee in a cup and then I start work Monday morning! I'm excited to be back to a good stable normal job.

Glad to hear it Jeff. Sounds like a good job with set hours and routine. Plus enough time for rest and sleep....and some wonderful new blanks!!!!

Congrats Jeff, sounds like we're both in about the same place. I quit my "new" job about a week ago because of the pay and hours also and am now working with my dad. It's definitely not what my degree is in, but it's good, honest work. Hopefully 2012 will be a better year for us than 2011 was!

Congrats! And good luck with the turn and cough. At least it doesn't involve rubber gloves.

So now wile you're waiting you can use/get a smart phone and be on the forum. I use forum runner.

The real trick is getting that mini lathe in the cab and hooked up to the battery! : )

Congrats!

I already have and often use my blackberry on the IAP. Can't live without it! I sit there and browse the web and spend money, so I drive the truck and the economy. I've been real slow this last month making any inventory. Made almost none. I just kinda lost my motivation by sitting here at home. It's been relaxing, and I've made a few pens, but really I need to be working full time at a normal job, which pumps up my energy level for when I'm at home. Sitting here makes me too tired to do anything...I don't know why that is, but it is!

That is great Jeff. I know what you mean about getting tired. Sitting around can do that to you. I try to keep busy with pens and scrolling and keep Eric (Buzzzz4) happy! What a challenge. It seems to work out in the end. We have a great time together. He keeps me going in the pens and mechanical things.

Congrats on the new job! I did the same thing, had to quit! Still looking. Had a good interview today. I hope it works out like yours did!

Dang..it's really stormin out now. Ice raining darn near vertical. Dog really needed to go out. He was really hesitant, never been out in this before. I wish I had a video..he made a dash for it, ran out there faster than I ever saw a bulldog move, a couple quick circles in the yard, stretch and pee, run and hop a couple more circles, drops a deuce, back to the house so fast he darn near knocked himself out as he slid sideways into the door..I was lmao!

Perspective and a clear head sure afforded you the chance to open a new door. Good for you Jeff!
