I just got an e-mail from the secretary of our wood turning club that our club won the Best in Show for Group Projects at the AAW Symposium. We also won an artistic award.
The photo shows the piece under assembly. At the bottom left corner of the shot you can see a pierced globe which hung in the centre of the sphere and rotated. The piece was called "Protect our Earth" and fit in with the theme of the AAW symposium.
Part of the requirement for the competition is that the piece must be capable of being shipped to the symposium in a 2' x 2' box (I think those are the dimensions). So this had to be assembled by our chairman and attending club members at the symposium.
What was neat about the project was that something like 25 members contributed with experience ranging from a couple of months turning to very experienced turners.
