As many of you know, I try to get my fat butt out on the bike occassionaly. Today we received this email from the race director talking about a guy in Colorado who builds WOODEN BICYCLES! There's a race in Moab, Utah this March and hopefully he will be there to show us some of his bikes. And here I thought I was pretty talented making a pen out of wood~ check it out.
Connor Wood Bicycles -- Wood bikes from Denver Colorado. | Connor wood bikes handbuilt in Denver Colorado. Bicycles like the woody 29er scorcher made from steam bent, kevlar reinforced ash wood. A great wood bike!
"Introducing.......Connor Wood Bicycles
Recently I ran across an article about a craftsman in Colorado who is building wood bicycles. His name is Chris Connor. Interestingly, here in Moab where I live, there is a shop that isn't even a bike shop with a wood bicycle on display built by Chris! The bike is absolutely a beautiful work of art but I never actually thought you could ride it daily like any other bike. That is until I read the article about Chris. You see, Chris is a craftsman. He builds things out of wood from boats to exquisite classical guitars by hand. These things require mastery of materials like shaping and epoxies with the demands of very close tolerances during assembly. Though there have been other wood bikes made, Chris wanted to build a bike that was great to look at and great to ride. He's done just that and more. His inventory boasts road bikes to cruisers to mountain bikes. Being a cyclist himself, he knows that cycling is about developing an enriched relationship between you and your bike. Having invited him to attend our Skinny Tire Festival in March, we are very hopeful he can arrange his schedule to showcase his incredible craft!
