Hi,

This pen is a gift for a colleague who recently wrote a letter of recommendation for me.

It is Redwood burl on a chrome sedona. The burl was VERY soft, but didn't chip out or anything which was nice!

I tried using an odorless CA glue +BLO as the finish. It came out ok, but not quite as glossy as the regular CA. Has anyone else noticed this?

Comments and critiques welcome!

I think the finish is good.
Personally, I think we strive to have an ultra-shiny finish too much, and often it obscures the grain and figure in the wood by being too glarry (sp???)

Nice job

Havent heard of the odorless CA either but there are many on here that will be glad to hear they have it. I think the finish looks fine.

Beautiful pen, Chris. I have not tried the odorless CA, but do notice
that CA + BLO can sometimes result in a less than glossy finish.
I find the finish you have attractive, it's a great piece of wood.

Thanks for the comments. I agree that the CA+BLO is not quite as glassy as other approaches. This is 8 coats of CA+BLO, and then some plastic polish. I wanted to use the BLO as a initial coat to pop the grain a little. As far as the odorless, I didn't smell a thing.

I have been wanting to try a plexi finish, but didn't want this pen to be the first test!

Thanks!
Chris
