OK, cheesy title but! I did just that- I've been wanting to get a good flash for my pens (instead of using the 2 little lamps I've been fiddling with for a while now). I saw this 300 w/s flash over at Adorama for $100 with free shipping and figured it was worth a try.

Flashpoint Budget Studio Monolight Flash, 300 Watt Seconds BF-300W

Very glad I did! I'm still messing with the camera and power settings to get it all in synch, but wanted to share this. 1 light source does so much more than I ever imagined it could.

C&C welcome, of course.

John, It gives a good photograph, with the bounce from the ceiling,
But it would be Great if you could eliminate the Shadow from under the Clip and the Pen Barrel. These distract from your first impression of the Pen, that is before your mind say's "Ah that a shadow from the Clip and Barrel.
I am sure one of the Photo Guru's will be able to tell you How.
Brian.
