A New USMC Decal

I designed this decal for a very good friend I have known since Vietnam. The first time I met Rob, it was just a voice on the radio directing my fire from the AC-47 I flew during The Battle of Khe Sanh in '68. His son is a Marine Officer and now his grandson is graduating from the Naval Academy as a Marine Officer this year. Rob wants a special pen for his grandson's graduation.

The pen is going to be made from a cartridge case the went through one of my mini-guns on my Spooky in support of the Marines at Khe Sanh.

Sometimes when I design something, I can't see the forest for the trees and another pair of eyes can see something I missed. Comments Please.

Awesome story/design. One thing that came to mind that would work out really well was Rob a Marine? "We Kick Ass / Three Generations Tough" Something like that. Where all 3 will want one. It would be a bond (like the Marine brotherhood) between them. I know it sounds cheesy, but I basically have no family left (at 36 years old) other than my daughters and wife. And connection I have to the few left mean a lot.
 
You best make plans to go into production. Once that pen gets to see the light of day, there will be a stampede to your door.
Great story that goes along with the pen. Wonderful idea and even better presentation.

Yes Rob is a Marine, Retired as a Col. with two Silver Stars.:usflag:
The inscription on the pen is going to list all three Marines with Semper Fi in red and gold below the names.

I took John's (aerosupra) suggestion and added a color ring around the oval.

As I have not been in my shop since Dec. because I broke my arm in an auto accident and it will be about two weeks before I have full function back. I have a lot of time to kill. I took the bacis design and changed it to the other services.

If anybody would like a copy of these images, please PM and I will send to you. The image size is 300 X 120 px 90dpi. I have two file formats .svg or .png.

I really like the design Larry. But be aware that the Corps has copyrighted all the things pertaining to the Corps. I know you are not going to sell those pens but going in production with USMC and maybe ARMY etc might not be the best idea until you can check it out first. I too am a Marine Veteran and made pens with the Globe and Anchor, but I only give them away to Marine Veterans to be safe. I made some with Purple Hearts as well and give them away to Marine Veterans who earned that Medal in combat just to be safe. Great story for great guys.
 
thanks spooky. maybe not you personally, but one of your birds saved my butt. flew seawolfs myself,
i love the design and would not change a thing. he will love it i am sure.
