If you are like me, I find the IPad keyboard hard to use so I purchased a blue tooth keyboard case for it. That works great but now I have another piece of equipment to carry around.

Yesterday, I was researching the speech recognition feature that comes with Windows 7 for a friend of mine who has lost the use of her dominate hand for five weeks. I ran across this great free app for the IPad called Dragon Dictation.

This app makes note-taking easy when you can't or don't want to use the keyboard. You can leave your notes in the app and refer to them later. You can also send a note via e-mail directly from the app. Or cut and paste the text you dictated.

My only complaint with Dragon Dictation is that it requires an Internet connection to run. That makes it slightly less convenient.

You can get it off the Apple App Store.

Dragon is THE standard VR app for many fields including medical. Don't know about for the iPad, but on the PC there are many versions from Home ($99 list, often on sale - I've seen as low at $29) to specialized medical (up to about $2k a pop plus hardware).

These are great unless you have a thick accent. Then they can be pretty frustrating.

Sorry, if you have a thick accent and you spend a little time reading to the App it will be fine. I had a customer that came over from Italy 4 years ago and he reached a point where he got our his notebook (before iPads) and talked to his note book so I could read and understand what he was saying.

It has the Artificial Intelligence to learn and understand accents.

If anyone wants it, I received an offer for NaturallySpeaking Premium for $79 - normally $199. This is for the PC not iPad. Through PunchSoftware.com - use code PUNCH79 @ checkout. Expires 7/31
