Here are a few of Jonathon's dyed and stabilized blanks. There is a progression in the process in this series of pictures.
The orange one is box elder burl and was an early dye where the blank was pulled before it got 100% saturation into the wood. I actually like the outcome of this one with the mix of colors.
The Tec pen is either a double or a triple dye spalted hickory. This was finished with just a few coast of pens plus friction finish.
The fountain is an interesting outcome. The blank itself is buckeye burl and was a very vibrant purple with full 100% saturation of the dye. Once it was turned and sanded, a CA finish immediately turned it much darker to almost a charcoal with a purple-ish tint to it. I think next time I'm going to try a lacquer finish to see if I can keep the purple in tact. I like the final result of this one, just different than I expected.
