A Father's Pride

I was just sitting in the hotel restaurant/pub and the news came on the TV....

'World's most expensive painting going on show....'

It's a Picasso. $106 Million !!!!!

Few minutes later I get a text message from my 16yr old daughter.

'Hey Dad, I got a decent grade for my art. I'll email you a photo later. It's a self portrait. Luv Kim XXX'

Guess which one I'd prefer to hang on my wall??:biggrin:

Now I know I'm biased, and every father on the planet thinks his kids are the best but I have seen a few posts here where proud Mums and Dads have shown just how fantastic our newest generation can be.

Teenage kids often get bad press from us grumpy old farts, so here's an invite....

Post a pic here of something one or all of your kids have done recently that makes you walk around with a dumb grin on your face.
Could be sport, music, art.....anything

What a wonder thread to start. The picture is beautiful, you have every right to be proud of your daughter.

I don't have children, therefore nothing to contribute.

Marla is correct you do have everything to be proud of. The best thing my children have given me are grandchildren, other than that................well the days not over maybe Ican come up with something.

My daughter is only 5 so any of her efforts are always treasured. We had her counting to ten in Irish and German before she even started school and she can also tell you what age she is and where she's from in Irish. She's my little princess and I love her to bits.

I would also chose your daughter's. Sounds like the artistic gene is running deep in your family. My 7 year old's pride is the Lego sets he is putting together. Especially proud as they say they are for a 15 year old. Then there's my daughters and their ballet and the list can go on.

Skip, I'm not well versed in Art, but I do know what I like, I like some of Picasso's work as well as Dali, but I tell you what I sure do like your daughter self portrait. if I were you there would have been buttons popping off my shirt, I'd have my chest pumped up full of pride and waving the picture about proclaiming MY LOVELY LITTLE GIRL CREATED THIS isn't it beautiful!!

I wouldn't pay $1.06 to buy that Picasso (except maybe to resell it) but your daughters painting is another story. If she is interested I would love a picture like that of my little girl, I could trade her some pen blanks or such stuff .... or even thoughtless cash.

You have a talented little girl... In my opinion it's a rare artist that can do portraits well...and well she did well. Not only that, she a beauty herself... you did good too.

My son isn't into art, so don't have anything to show, but my step son is a photographing truck driver... he is quite the talented photographer... his site is a couple of years old now and not updated often, but check out..

With the greatest of respect, even if the Queen said it was good, it couldn't make me any more proud. :biggrin:

The object was to show what cool stuff our kids are doing and making.
Of course, I've always loved my kids, but believe it or not, it wasn't till I 'met' the late Johnnie 'Jarheaded' right here on IAP that I started seeing our youth in a different light.

Bruce ( Gofer ) thanks for that compliment, but I think I'll let her explore and enjoy her art before I ever suggest that she could make any money from it. :biggrin:

You are correct in that he is very talented. This is a perfect example of how biased we allow our minds to become. I already said how kids get a rough deal and now you introduce us to something that we would never expect a young truck driver to do!!!
LOL, I loved the touch of humour with the Spiderman in the Mushrooms!!!:biggrin: and the swimming tiger is excellent!!

That's a beautiful piece Skip. Nothing like Daddy's little girl. Just came home from a visit with my daughter in NYC who is well on her way to an exciting career working for a renowned chamber music orchestra. If I had that picture, I would scan it, print it on a label, cast it and make it my carry pen. A lot of talent there.

I'll play. Before I do though I want to say your daughter does great work Skip and you should be proud.

This is my oldest sons very first pen completely by himself. I've always helped him on the previous ones somewhat but this one was 100% his. My younger son isn't into this type of thing but is big time into soccer and is second in his league in goal scoring. I'm very proud of both of them.

I have three sons and all have gifts of one kind or another. If the link works, the elbow to the right is my youngest son. You have to let the ad run and it will go to the 18th photo.

When he told me he was going to be a professional trombone player I never dreamed his success would be so high and so fast. He graduated with his masters about 2 years ago. He has placed and won international competitions, played with some of the elite in the world, played in Japan, Europe and South America. When he finished his masters, there were 3 orchestra jobs for a trombone at a major orchestra world wide. He got one of them. How many of us really get to follow our dreams? Thanks for letting me brag.

My daughters talent is in music, A pic would not do it justice but her pride and happiness when playing makes life worth while.
Looks like you have a very talented girl there Steven, It's a shame they have to grow up.
