As you all know, Jonathon is a true mad scientist, but until yesterday I really had no idea how far down the rabbit hole his creativity went! I'm down in GA doing some leadership training for the military and made the 70 mile drive to SC to spend the day with Jonathon (a country mile as he puts it). With all the dirt roads out there I should have had a 4x4 to get out to his house  Anyways...

For those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Jonathon I'll just say I was blown away by how humble the man is. Just an all around great guy who has a streak of creativity just screaming to be let out. Like most of us, his mind runs at a million miles a minute, but lacks the hours in the day to act on all of his ideas. While looking over his work in his office I was truly speechless with some of the ideas the man has, and let me tell you...he has some amazing stuff in the pipe! Even the work that he claimed were screw-ups looked awesome. I guess it's difficult being a genius:biggrin::biggrin:

Well, I wanted to thank Jonathon openly for his generosity and spending the day with me. I hope to be able to make my way back to SC before I head back to VA just to hang out with this great guy and perhaps get some more of that sweet tea.

:alien: Green with envy Tim... I met Jonathan down at a Ga. IAP meeting and immediately became a fan. He has an incredible eye for color both in matching and combos. And his skill at turning is just as marvelous. I am proud to call him friend, admire him as a true artist, and wish I lived close enough to call him mentor.

Tim,

Jonathon is a great guy. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during your guys meeting. I can only imagine the great ideas flying between the two of you. Can't wait to see the new stuff from you guys!

Not sure I contributed to anything...Jonathon has pretty much everything covered. Truth is, I just went to hang out! We did a little show and tell, but mainly just spent time talking. I'm sure he gets a million questions a day about this stuff and it was just cool watching how he works through his ideas. It was a good day!

Wish you and Fred could have been there!

Tim, I hope you can make it up to the Carolina Penturners meeting on the 8th of April. Some great folks there. I hate I couldn't come down, my family had the stomach bug that is going around and I was afraid I would get it down one of those dirt roads. I know I personally would be honored to meet you, and I bet the other folks in the club would too.

Yep but we all know Shea is the 'Better Part' of the family!!

I had a great time when I met him and like Jason, wish I could have been a fly on the wall but we had our own fun up here with 10 guys in my shop talking pens.

Your day trip will be well worth it! Loved mine and the tea was sweet!

I'll say that I might be able to attend, but as with any military training things have a way of coming up. If the stars align and we're not doing anything that Sunday I'll do my best to head back to SC for the event.

Would love to see everyone.

I'm glad you had a good time Tim. It was ALOT of fun just hanging out and talking. We did manage a bit of shop time, but just chatting was fun enough. You're always welcome as is anyone else who happens to be in the area. Hopefully you'll have more spare time in your schedule for some more visits. I know Hans wanted to come out yesterday but with a house full of sick wife & kids he couldn't. Making the meeting would be cool.

I appreciate you making the drive out and spending the day with me. Shea's a bit dissapointed she didin't make it home in time to meet you. Just another excuse to stop by. Thanks for all the kind words. All the same can be said about you as well. I'm sure we can get into all kinds of trouble if allowed enough time!

Tim,
I'm sure you enjoyed your time with Jonathon. My wife and I had a great time a few weeks ago when he stayed in our home after a Richmond pen meeting. You are correct when you described him as a great, humble individual. Some of my favorite pens are Jonthon's creations.

Did he mention banjos or squelling like a pig? You kinda have to watch what dirt road you go down in the South. Jonathon does like to set a high bar for folks to reach for. Of course so do you Tim.

You know the Atlanta Pen Show is next mont if you canale it to that. You can meet a few more members.

As much as I would like to attend every pen show I'm pretty much tied to this school for 5 weeks then I'm back to VA then it's no life until the end of November when things will go one way or another with my boss. When that works itself out I'll have some more free time...maybe.
