John Lucas has a good number of online video tutorials on woodturning and frequents another forum I read. He was invited to give a talk at the Gwinnett Woodworkers Associations Woodturning SIG meeting a few weeks back.
After John gave his talk at the GWA meeting I took my notes and put together a minimal setup to do router fluting on my lathe, consisting mainly of a small platform on a 1" pipe to put in the tool rest mount and a prop for the back end of my palm router so it would set level on its side. The first was the shouldered bowl out of Bradford pear using the round cove bit to flute the shoulders, just a straight pass across the crown of the shoulder with the platform angled to center the cuts.
The next was a straight sided bowl out of Bradford pear with stopped flutes on the side after which I turned a narrow cove top and bottom of the flutes to frame them. Both projects used the built in 24 stop index on my Nova DVR. Happily right after I finished the last one the mailman showed up with the accessory indexing wheel John recommended from Ironfirellc.com. Now I need to build the stand to mount the index pin on to use it.

Awesome job. I really dig that shouldered bowl. The router accents don't overpower the bowl but they do add a ton of class to it.
