With the wind up to the 10th anniversary to 9-11, there is a lot of remembrance going on.

I ask you to remember the first responders that rushed into harms way when instinct was to rush away. They are heroes in every sense of the word. Many of these men and women are still experiencing fallout from that day, both emotional and physical.

Rhode Island will be holding a service, with Honor Guards from every Police and Fire Departments in the State. I will be there representing my department, in their Honor.

I was standing my family room on the morning of 9/11/01 watching the news about the attack on the WTC with my wife. When the second airliner hit the WTC we realized that we had lost a family member who worked in the building.

A short time later I watched the video of the airliner hitting the Pentagon. A few years before, I had worked in the Pentagon on the same side of the building. I found out later that the office I worked in was in the path of the plane.

Every September 11th I take a moment when I wake up and say a prayer for the friends and family I lost that day and for the other victims and their families. Some things you never get over, you simply learn to live with them.

I'm watching Dateline right now, got a special on about it. It s bringing back lots of memories and emotions. very tough to re- live

They are now warning us to be more alert as to our surroundings, there have been credible threats about car bombs on 9-11.
I don't walk past a serviceman or woman without thanking them for their service.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

NPR had an interview with a fire captain who was in the second tower with his crew on the 24th floor when they got the order to evacuate. They stopped to pick up an older woman who was having trouble walking. This slowed them down substantially. When they got to the 5th floor, she collapsed and could not continue. The Captain went into the 5th floor to see if there was another option. Just as he returned to the stair well, the building collapsed. When it stopped, amazingly his entire crew and the woman with them had survived. Everything above the 5th floor was gone and everything below the 2nd(?) floor was covered with debris. The Captain is certain that they survived because they stopped to help the woman they brought down with them. They were able to walk out and climb down the debris pile from the 5th floor.

The victims and their loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers.
