60 Degree Center

it is possible, but cost wise not practical for most people. a machine shop would need to regrind it and even if someone had a suitable grinder at their home and did it for free it would be a wash with the shipping both ways compared to just buying a new one.

I put my grizzly 60 degree center bought for pen turning in headstock turn on lathe, sand then polish 0000 steel wool.

I get a ring on tip from bushings or mandrel rod. No damage just doesn't look right.

Bought a 60 degree machinist center with with plus/minus -0001 run out and very hard steel back in 1994 for not much money. Still works fine and use it in place of centers that came with lathes have owned.

If it's a "live" center just tape it up so it won't turn and with the lathe at around 500rpm hit it with a file to clean it up. Same for a "dead" center, just lose the tape.:biggrin:
