My PT guy says he is from Ghana. I personally think he is from Rwanda. He is good at torture.

There is hurt and then there is good hurt. Doing something you could not do before is good hurt. Keep going.

Ken,
I was in an accident in 2004 and ended up with a hip replacement, so I have been through the same thing you are going through. When the PT people came in the next morning and wanted me to get up, I thought they had the wrong room, or were taking some of the drugs they had given me....It takes a while but you will continue to improve for a long time. Very soon you will only have pain or stiffness on the first few steps then it will be fine. That too will go away.

I always asked the PT people if in a former life they were recreation directors at Auswitz.....

Good Luck...keep in mind it get better and better

I didn't want to tell you about this part Ken, so I didn't tell you anything. Glad to hear it went well, and you're on your feet.

Come on Ken MAN up when my hip was done i was back to bowling 3 weeks after surgery. and that was a year ago oct. 5th and i am still going strong.

Dan

Gee, Ken, 50 feet is a long way! That's longer than the cross walk at a busy intersection! Way to go! I haven't faced your challenge. But what ever heppens, mind the PT and doc. the pay off is well worth it. you're in my thoughts. I'll take a few extra steps for you.

PT guys and gals have a really odd definition of a "fun" new exercises. I live it 3 times a week, heal well my friend

Guess I am the only one who pushed harder than the PT folks........Ken and anyone who has had a sever injury. over a decade as a ER and ICU RN and braking at least 2 bones in every skeletal group of my body has taught me some important lessons, The simplest of which applies to everyone "USE IT OR LOOSE IT" Yep get lazy and the healing process will degrade by leaps and bounds!

I feel for ya there Ken! it does at times feel like the Butan death march! But it dose get better and the more ya put into it the more you will get out of it. At home is ussually where folks get off track, do the home exercises.

MY mother had a knee replacement. She did the PT religiously, and at home did as much as they would allow, and maybe a little more. After 3-4 weeks of twice a week rehab they told her, "We can't do any more for you than you are doing at home, and keep doing it". There was also a man got the same surgery the day after mom. He will still trying to walk up the three steps when mom left PT. He didn't do the exercises.

Short story: Do the exercises!

AND heal well!

Good to hear that you are up and moving, well some anyway. My hip replacement was 7 years ago and my only real issue is putting on my sock as I cannot bend leg that close. Keep up the good work and get feeling better.

Ken,
Have they used "e stim"? as part of your PT.
My dad had an accident about 6 weeks ago. They had to replace the upper part of the femur bone as well as a full hip replacement.
They have been using "electronic stimulation" on the muscles and he said this really makes a difference with his rehab.

Does this mean we get to experience the real Ken in a few months after therapy and no more pain meds? This is gonna be fun!

So Ken goes in for surgery and leaves Andrew in charge of the shop for a few days. Now we have always said that Ken was never in his right mind. Andrew had a prime opportunity to goof off and kick back with no Ken riding his rear about getting to work. So what did Andrew due? He worked hard than if Ken had been there telling him what to do every minute of the day. It is great to see how much he has matured over the years. Now it looks like Ken can kick back and enjoy his therapy while Andrew brings the shop to new levels.
