This is a Woodcraft kit that I got and set aside. For some reason, I lost the spring. I keep a box of odds and ends so I experimented with different springs to see if that would work. Here's what happens: I can retract the refill without the upper barrel assembly. Put that on and the refill refuses to retract. Photo enclosed of the two parts.

I found this kit at Berea. Assembly Instructions

It looks like you may have the center ring on the wrong part. In the linked picture the center ring is on the top part of the kit not the lower body. As a result you may have the lower body turned too big. The upper part is supposed to slip over the lower body.

Something is amiss. The transmission is supposed to fit into the upper part, not the lower barrel.

The upper part fits fine so diameter of the blank is OK. The transmission screws onto a threaded insert in the lower part. Then the upper part slips over the blank.
Just checked for the umpteenth time. Seems like the top section tube is dragging on the insert on the end of the blank. Camo blank is a bit smaller than the insert. Curious as to the problem so I'm going to disassemble it and start over.

Something to try....with the point extended, press the point gently but firmly against a hard surface. That makes sure it is fully seated. Works for slimlines and gatsby kits, which is mostly what we turn at the blind center.
