 lol no the title isnt a play on words....

Product name: Seiohbo (Makie)
Price: 40,000$
Barrel material: Ebonite
Description: This work is completed by using the technique of "Kakiwari Maki-e" following former work Jurojin after the production period of more than one year.. The subject is "Seiohbo" ,the goddess that gives the power to confer a long life. A background of Seiohbo is Maki-e of gold powders and Kin-Hirame. (very thick gold plate.) Clouds and other part of the back ground are partly the same hight, which could be done by a conbination betwee Togidashi (polishing) Maki-e and some other techniques. The Seiohbo itself is using of Gin-yuji raising and Kakiwari Maki-e together. Kakiwari Maki-e is a technique for which only the part in the borderline paints and leaves the lacquer when the borderline is drawn. It means that to write the surroundings of a line ,but to write a line in order to express a line. This technique is so difficult, but suitable for expressing a cheek of a face and so on. The part seen in the line of the pleat etc. of clothes doesn't draw as a line but shows the line by drawing only the parts other than the line. Not like piling up highly technique called 'Taka-Makie' , 'Kakiwari' technique is very difficult to make a thin border line and takes long time.

pmsl Mike not even thinking about that.. seeing as ive shelled out for that silent compressor and airbrush for experimenting with the background colours

Beautiful artwork, but not my style or budget. And for 40k it doesn't even have a clip.

Don Vann

Certainly not my budget either.. though im sure there are collectors which it would appeal to. I dont quite share the same view with the clip. I dont like clips, so in my own personal preference if i was spending alot on a pen, I would hope it was clipless

It turns out $40,000 is cheap!

There are many more pens that fall into that catagory. These are for the truely rich and for the pen fanatics. These are works of art and I agree about the clip. Pens like these do not need clips. They are not carried in shirt pockets for sure. I at times like to look at some of the designs and try to duplicate something similar but using woodworking tools. I have a few ideas that I need to work on in the future.

The post on the first pen reminded me of the crash course in Japanese swords I had last year. A good friend of mine died and he had an extensive collection of swords. I was asked by the executor of the estate to liquidate them. The rituals and traditions of these items is amazing. You never touch the blade with your bare hand. When inspecting a blade you are to place a piece of rice paper in your mouth to prevent you from exhaling and having any trace of spittle getting on the blade. The culture of societies much older than ours in the USA is amazing.

They wouldn't be in my pocket. I would probably have a pure gold case sitting on my desk and a $10,000 fine if anyone touched it.
