Hot off the lathe. I love picking out warped, ugly blanks just to see what's really in there. This is Chichipate wood and the inlay is crushed apatite. I cut it at 45 after it was drilled and glued it on to the tube a little offset to get an uneven groove, then glued the stone in with CA.

Although the blank was planned, the pen is a plan B creation. It was originally meant for another pen entirely, but I had the wrong bushings on it. The bushings weren't even for this executive, but there was enough left on the barrel to switch to these. I ended trimming it down about 1/16 to get the right tip extension on this kit. Oh well, not such a bad mistake.

Thanks everyone. I had never heard of this wood, either. I just saw it sitting there and felt like Charlie Brown with his Christmas tree. It just needed some love. Research tells me it is commonly known as "southern chestnut" in the flooring industry.
