Earlier this month my 9 year old grandson made a pen for 4-H woodworking.

I took pictures for a poster he made. Pictures of picking wood from the wood pile, cutting it down to size, drilling the blank, glueing thr tube, turning the pen and finishing.( I wanted to make sure the judge didn't think he just put a kit together.)
The judge was really impressed and gave him an "A" ribbon. Then suggested he not leave the pen because there was no display case for small projects and it might disappear.

Just thought I'd pass this along as an idea for a youth project.

PS--All I did was advise and show him how to use the gouge. He did everything himself.

If you still have the pics, we would love to see them. It was probably a toss-up who was proudest; grandpa or grandson.:good:

The pics are on my smart phone and it is smarter than I. Can't figure out how to get them onto my computer. Walmart printed them from my phone.

Send the pictures from your phone to your email address, there should be a share choice on the picture menu choose "email" send them to an email address you can access on your computer.

Or you can use the USB cable that came with your phone, and connect it to your PC, it should show up as a drive on your pc.

Good job, the next generation of woodworkers need a place to learn our craft. There are not very many schools that teach woodworking any more.

I made a bowl and got the woodworking trophy award at the fair this year! I also entered a project notebook on how I make pens, it got best of show. 4-H is a great, and I have one year left. It's been fun!
