Yes, I double checked, there are 390 pieces. It is a celtic pen kit from psi. This pen took me a little while but the results look pretty good (to me at least). It didn't "turn out" exactly how I expected but I'm still pretty happy with it. (It has a CA finish.)

The different woods are:
  • Ebony
  • Red Heart
  • Cherry
  • Purple Heart
  • Walnut
  • Paduak
  • Wenge
  • Mahogony

Nice. I did one that was only 124 pieces and I thought that was a lot.

The tricky part is rotating each segment just the exact amount each time so the same woods "flow" nicely into each other from layer to layer.

Seth - this is excellent work! I am also just learning to do segmented blanks and fully appreciate what you finished with.

Yes, it is an initial piece and you will learn from it. But it is excellent as is!

My only suggestion is to do 10 more. You will see your flaws better than anyone else, tweak your jigs and procedures and make the necessary corrections. We each are our worst/best critiques.

But, you should be very proud of this pen (I would be). Great job!

Oh... Thank your MOM! Having a photo record and a written journal of what we did is an excellent reference for future trials.

Yes, my mom is full of great ideas!(I would never think to take a picture of something while I'm in the middle of making it:smile:) I should have taken more but I'm to impatient sometimes to take pics.:wink:
