I just returned from a vacation in New Hampshire and Maine. It was great! A little cold (44 deg) but we managed. It was my first time in an RV (35' Class A). Here are some photos I managed to take while there. The little girl is my niece who managed to be the life of the trip :)

*Disclaimer - I am a professional photographer, but these were just for fun.

Allan,

We packed shorts and bathing suits...lol We were told it was unusual weather for this time of the year, but we had fun around the campfire, roasting marshmallows and making S'mores. I have many more photos but didn't want to bore you all. hehehehehehehe

You had pretty good weather! It's been a beautiful weekend here in Central Maine (Waterville area)--around 80 today, not much humidity (and no mosquitoes or black flies) just like last weekend. Though yes, it can get cool at night!

Hope you had a good time in Maine. Did you get upcountry or stick to the coast?

Regards,
Michael

I see something noteworthy in each photo.

The stream/rock photo, the slower shutter speed keeps the water flowing in the pic. How slow did you shoot? Hand-held or mono/tripod? What lens were you using?

The first deer shot shows really nice natural sunlight illumination on the subject. You have nice DOF here. Foreground and background have good sharpness.

Next you use a shallow DOF to really frame the subject well.

Nothing like a faster shutter speed, were you using a "creative zone" for sports photography, or just good timing? Love seeing the little fawn in the shot.

Nice portrait, keeping the subject sharp and the background soft.

I am originally from that area, 15 miles south of where MA, VT and NH meet. Every time I go home it is hard to leave, my hometown has 1 gas station, with the old rotary dial meter, the town pool is a maintained pond, and not a single stop light, but a whole lot of trout, deer and bears. Now you have made me want to go home!

Great pics! I'm in northern VT, it's been a fairly chilly late spring, even by our normal standards. Getting good deer pics like that can be challenging, they don't always cooperate like you'd like to.

I guess if you can't be in Vermont, NH and Maine are the next best thing!

Thank you all for the nice comments. Indiana Parrothead, it felt GREAT to not wear that thing for 12 days! Although, the new one was waiting on me when I got back to the station. It is much heavier and thicker for more firepower protection. UGH!

Carl, I purposely slowed the shutter speed. I did not have a tripod, however, I improvised and thought it came out pretty well :)

Michael, we were in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, right on the coast. It was so cold. But beautiful. The ferris wheel and rollercoaster were closed until the middle of June. We missed it by a week or so. The businesses on the boardwalk were also closed.

While in NH, my niece and I collected acorn tops. I have a test blank in the PP as I type this. I hope it comes out ok. Stay tuned....
