I just got an email from the promoter that the show scheduled this weekend is now 1 day Sat. This is due to the storm coming up the east coast.
So this really has got me worried. I have a 5 hr drive to get there I have to leave a day early to set up so I will have at least 1 day hotel expence. Maybe 2 if its a long day and I cant drive the 5 yrs home after the show.
Not sure what I am going to do. I think the show will not be very busy. People will be getting ready for the storm. What does everyone think? The show is in Stroudsburg Pa close to Philly and NYC.
I just might not go. Was hoping to do this show. Well I got till 6AM to decide.

I think you will be far enough inland from the storm that it will be a wind/rain event that may not amount to much. Although if you have an out without losing any money, I wouldn't blame you for skipping.
 
Rich - I am assuming this is an indoor show. If it is outdoor, then I would skip it. If it is indoor then it could go either way. It could be busy with people looking for something to do before the weather hits, or it could be a total bust because of the impending weather. So you have 10 hours of driving which means 30+ gal of gas, plus food and lodging. To me there just seems to be too much against it, but as always it has a possibility to create a perfect selling storm too.
 
Its outside . So that adds more strikes againest going. I will see what the track is in the morning. Maybe it will kick out to the ocean a little more over night.
 
Just saw on our news that the Storm will be right over Philly and NYC Sunday. I would think people would be gearing up for the storm, your going to either lose just your entry fee or lose two days of your time plus the hotel and gas money and the very good chance that your going to get caught up in the storm going home.
 
Being a veteran of many hurricanes over the years, it is not worth the hazard to travel 5 hours and face the possibility of rain, floods, and high winds unless you are a member of the American Red Cross.

Rich, Stay home and make some more pens for another day!

Besides, a 5 year drive is nothing to take lightly! :biggrin:
 
Wow..that's a tough decision! I don't really know what to say. If you can sell pens during a storm while people fly by in the wind, that would be amazing! But really, if you can get back your booth fee that would be nice, or at least half of it, I'd be bailing immediately.

WOW I didnt even see that 5yrs home. Well I decided to stay home Losing the booth fee was hard enough. I didnt want to take the chance to lose more. So I will stay home. I just got a gallon of PR yesterday. So I will experiment AGAIN with making so blanks.
This is the start of the good shows for me Some people are actually starting Christmas shopping.
 
First let me say there is no way I would risk it on a chance that maybe I might sell a pen or two, but this has me a little curious. In my experience being a people watcher, you will see certain people go to garage sales in heavy down pours, while others won't venture outside to buy milk. Is the clientele that are going to buy fine writing instruments the type to brave a storm to see if a vendor has something they want? We have several Art shows in this area every year that I have been to (but not sold at) and it would seem that the people that might buy a $200 pen are not the type to bother with severe weather conditions. I am just curious what others experiences might be.
 
From your post it seems to me you know you should stay home

I agree those who would brave the storm would be looking for finding a steal and many will stay home stocked up on water and are in their cellar
