OMG! I'm lucky I got out with my truck! Could have swapped it for some really nice stuff! I am used to the Woodcraft or similar lumber stock, this place was like Mecca for wood junkies. Only problem was that they do not re-cut. You have to buy the 6,8,10 foot board, can't just get 2-3 feet. Is this normal for these yards? They had some Pomell Bubinga that was GORGEOUS but was a 11' board at $22 a foot...too scary for me.

One exotic lumber company in Memphis will let you pick a board and cut off pieces as long as it leaves a minimum of 6 ft. If the board is 6 ft and you want it, you have to buy the whole thing.

I have a lumber yard near my residence that will sell whatever you want as long as they have an 8' board left after cutting. It seems that different yards sell different ways. Make GOOD friends with the yard manager - a pen is a great 'bribe' and see if he will give you a fair deal on any remnants from their mill work. I got a Snakewood log (about 2.5'x8") and my new "friend" gave it to me since it was slightly cracked (big deal - not!) for a simple Cocobolo pen I had in my pocket. You just never know ... [:D]

I just bought a small piece (6") of cocobolo from the yard close to us...they will cut the board by the inch you want and pro-rate the price. Pricey but nice when you find a section of a bigger piece you really like. One thing, you cannot buy a section in the middle...you have to buy from one end to it. [:D]
