I am a beginner pen turner and I just got a kit from WoodCraft with a mandral in it.
I have a 1980 Shopsmith Mark 5 and I do not know if my mandrel will work with the lathe attached to it. Does anybody have any answers????

I have one from around the same time. You have 2 choices. Best option is to get a collet chuck, but I turned my many pens using the mandrel held in the drill chuck. Just screw off the morse taper and you're ready to go.

PSI also sells a madrel with an adaptor that fits the 5/8" Shopsmith. But I have been using the drill chuck when I have used that instead of the mini lathe.

Craig; One of the thinks you will notice is that the PSI bushings are just enough smaller that some of them will not fit easily on a Woodcraft or Berea mandrel.
