And they wonder why Greece has economic problems. Was that in dollars or Dracmas? Didn't I see where greece was pulling away from the Euro to go back to their old monitary system?

Roy:
If you noticed, the seller is in Germany and auction doesn't end for another 3 1/2 days. During that time, Germany will have had to "bail out" two more Euro countries.

Since the auction ends AFTER the emergency bailouts, the seller may be projecting the amount of money he'll need to have in order to replace his $100 fountain pen at a later date:)

I understand the shipping cost. The seller wants an all-expense paid vacation to the US (coast to coast) while they hand deliver the pen.

Andy - Time to head back to the eye Dr. The seller is from Greece not Germany.

Impossible: I don't know him!

And if the price was $95 and shipping fee $15? Just a guess... If you try to place a bid (say $95 the system automatically suggests 95,55).

As for Germany bailouts please allow me to have a different opinion. The only winner of this world crisis in being is Germany! Well maybe I should stop here.

Kindly note that the $15,000.35 shipping is for ECONOMY shipping. I guess he means it will take the entire economy of Greece to ship it. Why anyone would bid $95,000.99 is quite beyond me but it looks like some kind of a joke.... putting in 99 cents on a $95000 item...come on now.

Actually the only winner of this world crisis will be China.

Not likely - they own too many dollars and too much US debt. If the US dollar loses, right now there's no way for China to win.

They also know that there is no way that they will ever recover what we owe them, EVER! which is why they are buying and hoarding as much gold as possible. They are trading there dollars in for gold(as well as other countries that currently hold US dollars)Once they have all they need, the dollar and our dept wont mean much to them. The dollar wont fall now, but soon enough unfortuntly. Japan dropped the dollar recently in trade with china. Just the next country in a long line to drop the dollar lately. Our money is already being devalued, there is nothing we or China can do to stop it. Gold is there cash crop, and it makes there Yuan and Renminbi that much stronger and more appealing to the rest of the world.

Little known fact....China owes us as much or more then we owe them with debt to us dating back over 100 years. They have not officially renounced the debt. We could 'in theory' tell them we'll just call it even.

China is attempting to become a great world power - to be a great world power a nation has to have currency that is accepted world wide, there have only been two or three really great nations in the last 500 or 600 years...Great Britain and the United States the most recent they are the only ones whose currency was accepted as the standard by which all other currencies were measured and whose currency was accepted everywhere.

The first sign of loss of that status came for the US 40 or so years ago when we removed ourselves completely from gold, when we did that the decline of the dollar form it's pinnacle became inevitable. China (and by a back door India) are accumulating gold and both are hoping to eventually get to the point where their currency is the one.

Nations, such as the Japanese Empire, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union could become militarily powerful but never become truely great because they could never achieve that economic position. China and India can and unless something I don't ever expect to see happens at least one of them will perhaps both.

The USA could still reverse this but I don't see us even trying to do so. We seem to me to be totally unable to even think about doing what we need to do to remain as 'top gun'. Our politicians won't even bring up changing or reversing the things that in my opinion have put us where we are about to fall off the edge...if not now, I'm afraid in the not too distant future.

China could probably still screw it up by reversing their movement toward capitalist economics but I don't see them doing that.

India is taking a different approach but has been at it longer than China, they have been allowing and encouraging accumulation of gold in private hands - at some point (as FDR did in the USA) I expect them to 'nationalize' the gold they've accumulated.

I think the pen in question is property of the Greek Financial ministry, and they are trying to sell it, and pay off some of their debt. The shipping charge may be to help the financial minister flee the country.

I asked the seller to clarify if the price is $US95 or $US95.000. The answer: "Starting bid: US $95,000.99".

I said OK but could you be more specific about the shipping fee please: $US 15 (fifteen) or $US15.000 (fifteen thousand)? No answer yet. I agree with Le Roy above it's a kind of joke...

LOL! Just got new glasses. I decided I need a brighter screen. So, we just went and bought the iPhone with the better screen. I can now tell that it's MADE in Germany, not ships from Germany.

Doesn't matter. The wife has claimed "dibbs" on the new phone, so it's back to blindness. :)

Hmmm, I was looking for a new everyday pen, wait I found it.... there is a $0.99 bic stick wedged under the passenger seat. Lucky day indeed, that just saved me a pot of dough.
