100 Dollar Pen

Okay, it's a pen blank with a fake $100 bill embedded in it, but that makes it a $100 pen, right? The kit is a Monarch in black and chrome from Signature Pen Supply. It's an Elegant Sierra copy, but it's pretty nice.

The blank didn't look like much at first, but I've turned blanks like this before.

Why do they make blanks like these so brittle? It turned like inlace acrylester. I found that a carbide chisel gave me the best results.

As I've done with blanks like this in the past, I turned it straight with the chisel, then used dry sandpaper for final shaping. I used 100, 120, and 240 grits for the shaping. Then my usual polishing regimen: wet sand with 320, 400, and 600 grits; Dr. Kirk's Micro Magic polishing wax; and finally Novus 3 and 2, and PlastX. I'm very happy with the results.

No, that's one thing I haven't gotten into is casting blanks. I bought it from Signature.

Thank you. I've finally found a polishing regimen that works for me. It's amazing the difference between the rough sanded surface and the final polish. I use it on all acrylics.
