10" Padauk Platter on Short Pedestal

Made this one right from scratch after lunch today. Used a 4" scrap piece of hard maple for the short pedestal and glued it on with CA. Padauk was a cut off from a 1" thick x 10" + wide board . Ready for the lathe in about 5 minutes curing time . Padauk is beautiful to turn and sand but OH . . so messy with the orange shavings and dust.
Wife is hoping I don't sell this one so better make a few more only next time I will use padauk for both platter and pedestal so it looks like all one piece.

I don't know if you know but padauk will turn brown so be careful selling it. cause it is going to change color. Looks great I like turning padauk also.

Yes , I found that out. Quite a discussion about it on my own site . .Apparently UV is the culprit .

Yes it is very messy. Even though it turns and sands and finishes with ease I won't be buying any more of it.
