Below is a purchase that finally got set up properly this month. It is a Grizzly 15 inch planer. The first picture is of the planer, and the second picture is of my old Delta 12.5 inch planer bolted on top - so both can be set for different sizes and finishes. I like the Delta because it is easier to use with small stuff - gives a glass finish on some woods, and has absolutely nothing wrong with it. I like the Grizzly because it is a workhorse that takes a 15 inch board and doesn't slow down, has two speeds, and it is precise in all ways.

I've put gates on the dust collector system, and the 1 hp Jet system grabs all of the chunks.

Here is the thank you:

This was the tool I won from the 3rd Anniversary Drawing - a 3/8 bowl gouge. Beautiful tool from:

Paulo Marin, ceo of CryoSteel Engineering & Technology, Inc. and Glaser Hitec CycleStart Engineering & Technology

If you look closely, it has my name engraved on it by them!

What a great tool! Thanks Jeff for the great fun.

Best wishes,
Roger Garrett

Congrats on the new planer. It should do you fine. Your set-up is innovative and efficiently utilizes shop space. Plus it adds mass and weight to the Griz planer. I see that big red button and don't recognize it. Is that an emergency shut-off switch? And in front of the Griz planer on the floor looks like a foot switch, is it?
BTW, I love your shop. It actually looks like you use it. I get very suspicious of these shop pictures that look like showrooms. I think those guys just fawn over their machines and never really use them. [;)]

Thanks Frank!

I use my shop every day. I don't know how to keep it as organized as some of the pictures I have seen here at the IAP. Even after four hours of hard labor - sweeping, cleaning up wood shavings, organizing tools and wood, clearing work tables and table saw - things still look clunky! Oh well.

The big red button is the off switch (as you surmised) and is a safety switch in that it is BIG and easy to hit as well as a protect from accidental power on. You have to twist it to the correct position to allow the green ON button to work.

The pedal is a lift that lifts the base of the machine off the floor. There are two heavy duty wheels built into the opposite side of the base. Once you have lifted the base, you can move it anywhere easily. this thing weighs 700+ lbs!!!
