    Sharpening Easy Wood Carbide Cutters

First let me say I am skew challenged. So for those of you who will want to admonish me for not using a skew rendering this question unnecessary, please be patient, I'm working on it. In the mean time I'm quite comfortable with my Easy Wood tools. What I'm not comfortable with is shelling out...

Sharpening Carbide Inserts on turning tools

I have found that a credit card type diamond hone is excellent for sharpening any of the flat topped carbide inserts. Just put the insert top side down on the diamond hone with some kind of lube.

    Show me your

grinder-based sharpening jigs -- please  I've got a couple of oval skews and I used to sharpen on a belt sander. It has since bit the bucket. I've got some ideas for building an adjustable, repeatable, reliable guide for my grinder. However, before I do, I'd like to see what folks...

I finally able to purchase my first lathe (Jet 1014 VS). It should arrive tomorrow (Yay!). But unfortunately, I'm broke again. I have a chisel set I bought from HF, but I don't have a bench grinder or jigs to sharpen with (not even a belt sander). Could anybody give me some advice...

    Sharpening Turning Tools

I have several questions about sharpening my tools, and wondered if you could help, please. 1. How often should I sharpen them, if I use them every day on wood? (Number of pens? Number of hours? Number of days?) 2. How often should I sharpen them, if I use them every day on acrylics? 3...

    Sharpening Help

I've been making pens off and on for a while now but I can't seem to get or keep a sharp edge on my gouges. I know about Alan Lancer's video for the skew. Is there a video or book available for gouges? How does everyone sharpen theirs?

Mini gloat - Wolverine set up

I got a Wolverine with a Sharp-Fast gouge attachment for my birthday. I wanted to set it up right, so I made a stand for a bench grinder I bought last spring when it was on sale. I made the stand out of pallet wood and scraps I had lying around, so it isn't that pretty, but I wanted to...

How often do you sharpen your drill bits

I know there are a lot of variables but I'm just trying to get a general idea. I have the basic HF set (no fancy Ti coating or anything). My most used bit is the letter Z that I use for Sierra pens. It has drilled about 20 or 25 blanks of vaious types of wood. Is it time to sharpen/replace it...

How do you sharpen your drill bits?

And how often? About a year ago I got a Drill Doctor 500X, and I have to say, once you get the hang of it, it is a very amazing tool! I suppose someone has come up with a jig to do it, or even do it freehand on a grinder. I've done that in the past, and watched a 4 inch bit turn into a 1 inch...

Setting Wolverine jigs to sharpen tools

Anyone who has a Wolverine Jig can make it much more useful by attaching a self stick tape measure to the left side of the extender bar Then when you sharpen your turning tool, mark the ruler measurement on the shaft of the tool with a sharpy. You can now instantly reset the bar to the exact...
