Got some old wood from a man who used to make xylophones. He passed, so I have no information about the wood. It is very dense and heavy, took pictures of the sides and the top of the sample piece. Any idea of what it might be?

If you can't afford a xylophone with rosewood keys then the next best is Padauk. That's what my son has.

I scored a piece of Paduk 5"x36" at a local lumber yard. As I checked out the guy asked me what I wanted to use it for. When I told him pen blanks, I thought he would cry.....
