A friend of mine reached out to me to see if I could build his new college grad a desk pen set for his new job at the bank. He also asked if I could make something that his son could keep in his suit as a pen for meetings and other needs.

The desk set & paperclip holder are made from walnut that I had in the shop. The brass business card holder is from Rockler.

The pen and pen funnel are the expanded Father Sing set that I found at Craft Supplies. It was an interesting pen to turn and has multiple options for how to turn it with or without a clip. In this case the customer wanted it to have a clip so we set it up that way.

The pen to be carried about is a Diamond Knurl rollerball in antique brass from Exotic Blanks.

Both pens are made with red mallee. I do find you have to keep an eye out for voids or cracks to fill when turning it but I love it looks when finished. I really love how it looks against the antique brass.

That is a very nice set. The additional pocket pen in a matching wood is very special. Nicely Executed. - Dave
Thanks very much Dave, I appreciate it. I have to confess that seeing some of the pens you've made the last few months were what made me think to try the rollerball in antique brass. I don't normally like it very much but your pens have changed my mind.

Very nicely executed. I am a big fan of Red Mallee and agree that you have to keep your eyes on it constantly for voids, but it is worth it. I love the whole set!

Love the look and grain of the wood. When I was in college, just after the earth cooled, BIC was a popular brand. However, very little grain in the pen.

Thanks very much. I really like the figure that red mallee shows and it pairs nicely with so much. This project was fun and interesting to do something I'd not done before.

Well, I wasn't in college when the earth cooled but we did have issues with guys wearing suits of armor occasionally. I am also familiar with clicking my Bic.
