Historical Indiana Elm

The wood for this pen came from an elm tree that stood in front of the courthouse in Corydon, Indiana. It died in 1924 and was cut down in 1925. IN 1816, when the constitution for the state of Indiana was drafted, the summer heat drove the delegates out of the courthouse and they would sit in the shade of this tree to work on the constitution. The tree became known as the Constitution Elm. The stump from the tree still stands in Corydon.
