Does anyone here use an airbrush??? If so what paints are you using and where did you get them??? I really would like to learn how to use one but my artistic skills are lacking so much so that I don't have any. I envy peole that can use them. There is a whole field of possibilities in pen making with them.

Any tidbits anyone would like to share please feel free.

Thanks.

I use one from time to time. They will spray any paint with the proper viscosity. I use urethane and acrylics mostly.

I airbrush quite a bit. Less than before now that the pen materials are taking over the bench. When painting a lot I will run 2 or 3 brushes. I use badger universal 360's. Its a very easy to use double action brush that can do fine detail. If you want one look on ebay sometimes you can pick one up for a good price otherwise they are about $125 I think. If you have any specific questions feel free to pm me and I'll try to help. What are you wanting to do on pens with it?

My artistic skill are in the negative but I can airbrush. the reason is simple, airbrushing is not about drawing or painting, it is about rendering. I think it is a very good idea to find someone in your area that offers courses and sign up. This way you don't aquire bad habits which can be very hard to unlearn. I use auto air paints which are ideal for airbrush and also have a very quick flash off (dry time) you would get them from "Airbrush Action". Or possably an auto paint store. It is a very usefull skill to have and one worth learning properly which can open up a whole new realm of possabilities for you. I live in Australia but deal with a lot of suppliers over there so if there is anything you would like to know just pm me and I will all I can to heip. Cheers Robert. P.S I use Iwata Airbrushes but also use Badger at times, either of these wil serve you well.

I want to be able to do nautical scenes. At first I would probably use a Nautical decal and want to make a blue ocean behind it sort of. I saw at one time a person here do something similar and he outlined a decal of a race car if my memory serves me. I want to outline it and fade into the rest of the pen instead of just having a defined circle of a decal. That is what I want to do with it. If this makes sense.

When it comes down to it, your budget will determine what you end up with. Definitely DO NOT get a HF airbrush. They may work for laying down areas of color but for finer detail work, they fall way short. A double action brush is highly recommended Well over 30 years of experience using an airbrush in one way or another, I have learned you cannot go wrong with a Paasche or Iwata. I still have and use my very first airbrush, a Paasche VL.

Here are a few old photos of some my work, which is old as well. . . .

I use one on a daily basis doing the dura coat service on guns. You could use any paint as long as it is thin enough to go through the gun. If you check online you will find a ton of videos on how to get started and basic airbrush techniques.

I have the HF 6 brush set that I was going to sell on here. The one I have grown quite fond of is my new Paasche Talon. It was $80.00 but well worth it.

My airbrush and some of the work I have done..
