Hi all! I have been looking at this site for a few months and really enjoy the content and respect between members. I need to take some new photos of my most current pens and I will post them. These are a couple that I did within my first week of turning. I will work on some new photos and post. Glad to be here and am looking forward to great info and conversation in my new hobby.

Chance,

I'd like to say welcome but... first I feel I should correct something you said. It is NOT a hobby.... it IS an addiction!!!

Nice work ;O) WELCOME!!!!

I grabbed the camera

and here is a couple of the more recent pens. Not all perfect but not as bad as my first pens months ago.

Welcome Chance. You are doing some GREAT work. Join in the fun here and keep posting!

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.

Welcome Chance. You've got some beautiful pens there! Even though I don't like the Simpsons, I love that pen.

Welcome Chance!

Nice work and I love the photography! Care to tutor me on the pics??? We could work out a trade!

.

These photos were all done very quickly. I use a simple light box that I bought off ebay. This is the kit I bought.. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-PREMIUM-PHO...ltDomain_0?hash=item4a9cf2a30d#ht_4630wt_1167

The lights that come with it are ok but they are not very durable. I just use a very simple desk light with a insane halogen bulb that I got at target. After that I just use the macro setting on a fuji film camera (less that $200) and shoot from the tripod. Lighting is the key and having a light box to diffuse it is a must. I am going to upgrade my backdrop and use a good stand in the future but again I just did these quickly. Thanks for the kind posts!!
