Car headlight question

I've got an '05 Chevy Classic (old-style Malibu) and the driver's side headlight went out. It worked on high but not on low beam. I replaced the bulb and nothing changed - high, no low. I switched the bulbs, changed the fuses, changed the relays and replaced the bulb socket. Still the same condition on the driver's side - high beam, no low beam.

I'm stumped. What should I try next?

Put a 12 volt tester on the Hi beam wire or a multi meter, if no juice then you have a wiring problem.

Sounds like a broken wire in the assembly into which the "socket" fits. Need to back track your wiring behind the socket a bit further and I'll bet you find a broken(or otherwise damaged) wire.

So each wire goes to just the high or the low side? Could I temporarily switch the wires so I can have the low beam until I have time to do a better fix?

I don't think that would work as you intend.
When the control is set to low beam you would still have same as now and when you have the control set to high beam you would have high on the passenger side and low on the driver side.:bulgy-eyes:

Back along the wiring harness you should find 2 splices that hooks both headlight wires together one for low one for high, often this splice becomes corroded and needs to be replaced. About a quarter at the parts house plus a pair of wire crimpers and tape.
