At the show today I had a few people ask about Gel Pens. I dont have any that has a gel cartridge in them But this is my question. Is the only pens that will take a gel refill one that uses a parker style refill? Or do they make refills for other stlyes like the simple cross refill. And does any of our members sell the gel ink refills? Thanks Rich H.

gel ink was formulated for ball points...to not dry out beacuse there is no cap and the tip is exposed. Rollerball ink is for capped pens and will dry out if left uncapped for an extended period of time. New rollerball ink will stay useable for longer periods of time. I think they are quite similar in thie writing characteristics..as far as I can tell. Others will disagree, I'm sure. gel ink is available for both the parker refill and for the rollerball pens.

Check with Anthony at http://www.thegoldennib.com He has an excellent selection of refills

And to be fair, check with
Lou at http://www.heritagepens.com or
Ed and Dawn at http://www.exoticblanks.com

I also have a question about ink. All of the rollerballs I have sold or given away have dryed up in about a month. These are the ones that come with kits from Craft Supply. Do you-all replace the refill with something other than what comes with the kit? Maybe I will try the Gel refills. Thanks

The CSUSA rollerballs use a Schmidt refill and you can order replacements from them and most other suppliers. I have also found Waterman rollerball refills at the big box office stores and they work as well but were more $$. I'm sure others can tell us of other brands that work as well. As for gel refills, I have only seen them as Parker style ... ( fit .. Cigars, Sierras, etc)
Only a month, huh ? I wonder ... Is someone not putting the cap back on ?

So gels are available for rollerballs. I should have checked the link above first.
Can anyone tell me what characteristics of gels make them appealing ?

The same thought crossed my mind. I have pens that I have used for almost two years now and still on the same original refill. Something's not right.

The gel goes down on paper nice and is so smooth with effortless writing. all my customers prefer the gel. It's also good for check wash prevention. Ppl are using acid based chemicals to remove ball point ink from checks to forge them. So I let customers know using gel rollerball is more secure as that ink cannot be "washed" gel soaks into the paper as well where I find the ball point seems to remain on the surface.

Thanks for that bit of info!

I´m a left hander, and I seem that the Gel pen write smoother for me than a ink pen.
