I am in need of some more collets for the PSI chuck. Are these ER32 size, does anyone know?

I hear you can get them on eBay fairly cheap. Any ideas?

I have had good dealing with Discount Machine Shop on ebay.

ER32 collets come with small increments - 1mm metric and about 1/16 in inch-pound conventions.

Yes, the PSI collet chuck takes ER32 collets.

800watt is the ebay seller that most folks recommend. I have purchased from him and have been very satisfied with his service and the quality of his products. Do be aware that he can be a little slow to ship sometimes (might be as much as 30 days4) and he rarely answers emails; but to the best of my knowledge, no one has ever failed to receicve an order.

Best set of collets to buy is the 18 collet metric set. This will allow you to grip any round stock from 3mm to 20 mm.
The 20 mm collet will give you an extra 1/32" of grip range over the 3/4" collet which is the largest collet in the Imperial set. The Imperial set goes in increments of 1/32"; but there are three sizes that are skipped cause, I guess, they are non-standard sizes......13/32", 17/32" and 21/32".

This is not a big deal if you deal strictly with American sized stock; but therer are a couple of metric sizes you will not be able to grip.

If you want to save a few bucks and don't need to cover all possible sizes, he has an 11 collet set, I think, that goes in 1/16" increments.

Randy,

Thanks for the input. I wouldn't have thought about buying a metric set but I think that makes the most sense right now. It is also cheaper than the imperial set by $10. I should be able to hold any sized stuff from 1/8"-3/4" with the metric set, right?

I didn't see the 11pc set. Are you sure it is an ER32 set?

Fred: I did notice that currently he only had the 18 piece sets available. It may be that the smaller sets are just out of stock right now. Also possible they just did not sell as well as the bigger sets and they have been discontinued. I know he used to sell them cause I have one......definitely ER32 for my Beall chuck. If you wanted the smaller set, wait a week or two and check again. They may be available later. Or buy mine and I'll put that money towards an 18 collet set for me.:biggrin:

I didn't figure out that the metric set was the best option until I had purchased the abbreviated set.......lesson learned the hard way!!

You need to "shop" all of 800watt's listings. It appears he is a bad typist as you will froquently find exactly the same set for $10 more or less than an identical set ?? You will also find different shipping prices quoted.......crazy; but you might as well take advantage of it.

I noticed the same thing. I am going to get the 18pc metric and it is listed twice. $10 difference for asking price and $4-5 difference on the shipping price. It is not a fortune but if I can save $5 or so, why not?

I just want to get in touch with PSI before I order to ensure it is ER32. You mentioned yours is a Beall. Are you positive the PSI is also ER32?

I just don't want to order the wrong thing at that price.

I have the PSI collet chuck, and I purchased the 18 pc metric ER32 set from 800watt
on EBAY. They work perfectly together. I use them more than I ever thought I would.
Great for making custom finials and closed end pens.

As positive as I can be without actual first-hand experience with the PSI chuck.

This subject has come up several times in the recent past and there have been a number of PSI chuck owners who have comfirmed that the chuck does use the ER32 collets. (In fact, IIRC, I called PSI, myself, when the chuck first came out to cinfirm the info.)

You can use the search function and find the prior posts or do call PSI if that would make you more comfortable.

I think between all the comments, it is pretty fair that it is ER32 replacements so I am going to get them.

Thanks for all the inputs!!
