For a cute 12 year old who was fascinated with fountain pens. Couldn't resist making her one while I tried out some new techniques. Ebonite, catalin and gold epoxy fill.

Poor Abby. An ebonite fp, personalized with gold fill? You've likely just ruined her for about 90% of pens she'll see between now and law school. She's gotta be one extremely proud 12 year old.

That is awesome! Both that she is interested in fountain pens, and that you made such a cool pen for her. Lucky girl.

THAT is one FANTASTIC pen, Bruce!!

Sure hope she puts it someplace safe, her peers may find it "irresistable".

Great for homework!!

Bruce,
That is a very nice pen.

If I may ask...what did you use to cut the threads?

Many thanks to all who have commented.

These threads were cut with a custom triple start tap and die set that matches the threads of the Churchill/El Grande. There are occasionally group buys here for these and every so often someone with buyers remorse will offer one up. A 1/2" ordinary set will work fine for starters and is a lot less expensive. A search will reveal several discussions on the topic. Others are quite successful on a metal lathe or CNC mill.

I think that your pen is superb. That you made it for a 12 year old, who like fountain pens is even more superb. It tells a lot about you. I am sure that Abby will be honored and will have a lifetime love affair with fountain pens and pens in general.
Quite a luck girl.
