Ok, call me new (which I am...VERY new, Just setting up my shop/garage) , call me dumb, call me whatever.....BUT...I jsut made the connection through DSallee's post that Wood N Whimsies is local....And as I checked the website, sure enuff there is a 417 area code.

So question being.....Where are they located? Can I just go by and buy stuff direct? Is the owner a member of IAP? Ive heard lots of plus's on threads about Wood N Whimsies versus buying from the big names. If they are local Id much rather my money go to them versus somewhere else.

Any and all help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Dsallee,

I will probably still have em ship, but, after the holidays I plan on making a day trip to Springfield (without the fam, Im taking them to SDC tomorrow) to hit all the stores, Bass Pro, HF, Grizzly and might as well add them to the list, Id like to at least say hi and check the place out. Hughbie said there are some other local stores in the area as well I might wanna check out as well but havent contacted him on what they are or where they are.

Ooooo.. I like Grizzly! Only problem is for SOME reason, every time I go into that store I spend money! :frown: ... the wife had to banned me from that store! .... BUT... now that I got a job, maybe, just maybe, the wife will let me visit again... YeeHaa!

Levi,
I'll second all the nice things that folks have said about Tim and Tracey. They came to our IAP Picnic this past August and had some great deals for us. Nice folks. Spend a bunch of money with them!

Do they have a store in Monett or just mail order like Arizona Siloute(SP?)

Also I got to looking around the shop the other day and I should be a spokes man for Grizzly or something because my shop has green everywhere. Drill press, planer, bandsaw, tablesaw, lathe, dust collector, air filter, 2 different sanders, bench grinder. No wonder my wife won't let me go to Springfield by myself.

Well, not really a "store front" but they have their "store" in their shop (in a separate room/office) ... really a nice setup and well organized... They pretty much do mostly internet/mail order but from what I understand, they welcome visitors...

I would definitely call first before "showing up" plus he'll have to give you directions...

I also wanted to say that WoodNWhimsies are great people to work with. If you ever find anything in the PennState catalog, they will match or most likely beat their prices.

Not to steal the thread but for people that get to Columbia MO (where i work) Hut products is about 10 miles east of Columbia. They also are mainly mail order but welcome visitors. But I do have to say WoodNWhimsies has better pricing.

either way it helps looking at all the blanks in person than on a website or catalog.

One note to know: They will not sell PSI's blanks. I know because I asked. He said he didn't get any discount on PSI's blanks so he didn't supply those. He does have a selection of blanks but not what PSI carries. I do order all of my PSI kits from him though, much better prices.

Thanks all for the input :) I'll call before going to WnW, I had thought about doing that anyway but definitely will now.

And no MASSMANS, your not stealing my thread, you just confirmed another question I was contemplating asking. I do make it to Columbia on occasion as I have a Cousin there and usually make it to Winter Fire School there at Mizzou. Next time Im up that way I'll pm ya ahead of time.

And on a side note, (stealing my own thread here) I wanna tell everyone how much I appreciate there generosity, Im brand new to all of this, I do have a lathe, 8" grinder, miter saw, table saw, 12" drill press and am in the process of building a workbench in my garage for all of this and for turning pens, game calls bowls or whatever fancies me, yet I dont have any turning tools or kits yet .(I already have 1 workbench and cabinets for my honey-do projects). Ya'lls input and generosity have done nothing but given me more confidence in myself and knowing that an answer is just a question away. You all are invaluable and a great group of guys. Thanks!

Don't think it is WnW that didn't ship and I have NEVER heard anything but good about Woodnwhimsie. They are "FFE" (Friendly, Fast and Easy on the Pocketbook).

I have to echo all that has been said about them. I am just outside of Springfield and when I have ordered I actually get it next day :) They are always willing to answer questions or help you finger out what it is you are looking for. I have been to their shop shortly after they moved in. Just give them a call ahead of time and I bet they will open their doors to you. Remember though it is the holiday season and they are shopping too :)

Great folks!!!!

You asked about other stuff in Springfield too. You need to go by the Wood Gallery on Sunshine in the Shopping Hills Southern Center... no wait, that's the Southern Hills Shopping Center. Ray (the owner) is building his supply and has lots of goodies (pen kits, pen turning tools, finishes, blanks etc.). Also, this is where the SW MO Woodturners meet every third Saturday. We like to support his business :)

YEP I WAS WRONG AND WHEN I SEEN THE WORD STEEBAR SHIVERS WENT DOWN MY SPINE

Keith,

You should go back and edit the original post. First impressions and first writings do a lot of harm when they are wrong. Ever see someone make front page news with the "correction" listed later, after opinion has been formed.

Wood N Whimsies deserves better than a "correction" and at least an edit - taking it out the original mistaken context. Editing is more effective than corrections too.
