Hello All,

I took a break from turning and from the site for a couple of months....I'm back!!! Sure did miss Y'all.

I am thinking about starting a new business selling sanding supplies. I am thinking about selling all types of abrassive supplies from discs of all sizes and grit types to belts and rolls... you name it.

What I am hoping Y'all can do is give me some input as to what you would like a GREAT abbrasive supplier to carry. Not just for your turning needs, but for all your woodworking, metal working and general purpose uses. Be as specific as possible...ie... sizes, grit types, backing etc....

Thanks in advance for your input!!!
Steve

P.S.: Of course there will have to be an IAP discount program!!!

I'm not too picky...

...on the sizes but something that is not the wet/dry stuff between 400 and 1k that holds up nice.(cloth backed maybe?) Or one of the roll dispenser type things starting at 300 instead of the lower grits. O.K. so maybe I am a bit picky.

My sanding needs

Lets see this is what I use/need. First Miro Mesh I use 1500-6000. I use a lot of 400 grit something high quality rite now I am using Norton and it is working well. Tools I have a Hitachi disk/belt sander. The disk is a 8" I would like to see some adhesive 8" disks there a pain to find. Rite now I make my own spray adhesive and cut them out 80 grit. 4x36 belt sander 80 grit. I have a grizzly 1x30 then again 80 grit mostly used.

Summery

Full sheets of micro mesh you could cut it down yourself.
400 grit high quality
8" disk adhesive backing 80 grit
4x36 80 grit belt
1x30 80 grit belt

Somebody give me a box of that stuff and I'd be a happy camper.

I totally agree about the rolls. I have a couple of rolls of the 150 grit left from the last couple of multi kits I bought. I was happy when it was offered with the 600 grit, but they could have eliminated the 150 in my opinion.

I have since switched to 2" discs. The same kind that you would use for sanding bowls. I like them a lot better. I have an organizer mounted right above my lathe that has bins for each size I use. On the front of each bin I have a piece of velcro "hook" to attach them to when I am not using them. i have found them to be more convenient and much better quality, plus, you can buy just the grits you want. I will try to post a pic of my setup.

The discs of that type that I will offer are available in 2" and 3", velcro backed. They come in grits from 80 to 1200. I have been using them personally for a couple of months and love them. They are aluminum oxide with an agent added to help keep them from loading. If I use them on acrylic, I use them wet, even though they don't specify wet-dry, and they last forever!!!

But those are just a small part of what I hope to offer. I will offer just about every type of abbrasive product immaginable. I hope to be up and running in a month or so. I will make an announcement on the forum when I am ready to go. Maybe even send out some samples for "product testers" to give feedback.
