Dehumidifiers?

Does anyone use a dehumidifier for their basement? I have been for quite some time and mine has given up it life. I have used Danby in the past. My last 2 have been those. The problem is they only last about 3 years. So my question is what is a good quality dehumidifier out there today. No I do not have central heating.

Our MIDEA dehumidifiers are like Energizer bunnies. The first is going on 5 years. We sold the 2nd when we moved from SD to Louisiana since the humidity is lower here in Louisiana during summer months and the larger one was no longer needed. Power consumption is about $1.25/day.

I do make sure that I clean the filter when the light comes on.
 
When my dehumidifier died I happened to find out the county was having a trade in event for better economical versions. I no longer live in that house but I know I went through two dehumidifiers in our stone walled basement in the 20+ years we lived there. The second one was sold with the house. It sat on a stand I built for it that was about 24-28" tall and drained into large tub that was emptied by a sump pump into the clothes washer drain pipe. Perhaps the elevating idea has some merit. I also cleaned mine whenever the light went on. I think the second one was a Midea but dont hold me to it.

You might want to see if your environmental services in your area are having any turn in options. Elevating is looks like a good thing to do. Midea has good reviews.

I just did a little reasearch with AI and it does say to elevate those things 6 to 12" off the floor. Now they come with wheels that take it up about 3 to 4". But my next one I will try to put on a platform of some sort. i will try anything. I lloked at Amazon and the reviews on all their dehumidifiers is not good for any of them. I did watch a short video of a test done for the top dehumidifiers and the Media comes out on top but the reviews were not good. We have had quite abit of rain this past summer. I need to replace mine soon.

My last 2 have been Danby because I heard they were very reliable. Well the first one went bad the second year I had it. It just made it under their 2 year warrenty so they sent a new one. The next one went just after the 2 year warrenty and they would not replace. But they put me in touch with a tech and I was able to buy the part to fix it on my own. Well here we are 2 years later and now acting up like the last time. i have a choice trying to buy the part again and fix on my own or buy something new. They do not make the so called 70 qt unit any more. It is now a 50qt.

Do you have a model number on the unit you have? Do you buy into the idea it needs to be elevated off the ground?
