Using a Magnate 1/4" router bit in my Pen Wizard machine along with a Foredom tool to drive it.

Yes Alan, I did the so called Barley twists for the last 20 years and learned the art from one of the best......Stewart Mortimer. Had a class from him back around 2003....what a great artist he is. Now I have one of those Beall Pen Wizards and use a router bit to create the twist. Since they are now machine cut I like to use the term "Rope Twist" instead. When I think of the Barley twist I automatically think of hand carved. Hope that explains my rationale for calling it what I do
