My first fountain pen

My first fountain pen. The kit is from StrongInk, and the wood is birch.

The Celtic knot is made from beech, I think. I'm not 100% sure, since the wood came from a salvaged furniture leg. In my very short experience with pen turning, one of the most enjoyable aspects is being able to use small pieces of wood that would be impractical for most other woodworking projects.

Of course, this can create an interesting problem when giving a pen as a gift and the recipient asks, "What wood is that?" Answering, "Oh, it was just a piece of wood I rescued from the scrap bin!" doesn't sound quite as impressive when you're presenting a handmade gift.

Finish: CA glue.

Many lessons were learned. For example the knot is far too bulky. I should have used thinner strips to achieve a more refined look.

Aito, your first fountain pen with a celtic knot is great! The beauty of this hobby is that you can learn something from each pen you make. I think the "bulky" knot looks kind of cool.

I looked up PSI Executive, but mine is not same. Mine is a cheap Chinese kit:

The nib seems to be decent for such a cheap pen kit.

Here's my second fountain pen, made for my wife. It's crafted from resin-stabilized wood with a CA glue finish.

I'd really like to start stabilizing the wood myself, but I'm missing the necessary equipment. My garage is already full of machines and tools, so adding another setup is difficult to justify right now!
