I don't like buying foreign made products, China, Taiwan and exedra. But I've been wondering why I'm paying 3 times the price to buy pen kit's from salers in the United States when the pin kits they sale are made in Taiwan and China, so I'm wondering if anyone has bought pen kit's from Pen Kit's Mall in China?

Thanks!

I agree with Monty and add… the plating quality and pen brass tube sizes will vary depending on what manufacturer makes them, even if the pen names are the same, and shipping arrival could be weeks or months depending on type and customs.

generally speaking, I have found the quality of their products to be quite good. Shipping can be expensive however rates vary like the weather, and you have five or so different methods of shipping. I have never had to wait longer than a week for parcels to arrive. any delays are usually caused here in Australia when the parcel gets sent around Australia on the free tour by Aus post.

Check for the price of shipping first. I bought a fly reel off eBay for a penny but it was $16 for shipping from Hong Kong. Package probably didn't weigh over a pound.

The shipping is significant so it is better to buy in bulk from them. Also tube sizes may be different than the standard sizes of kits we get in the US. Different tube sizes means different drill bits and bushings. This isn't a deal breaker but may require some creativeness unless you get thier bushings. I did order from them a couple years ago and the quality has been ok but dealing with the odd tube sizes has been a pain.

I occasionally do bulk order direct from Pen Kits Mall from China when I need bulk quantities. The shipping can be half, or more, the of the total cost of the order. Then when you order from online store you are then paying for their orders, shipping paid and profit for selling you the blank. That is what is happening.

The manufacturer in Taiwan also stopped making turning kits so all kits either get ordered from China or you find American made kits and there are only a couple of those.

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

I sent them an email about the shipping time, I was told to get an order to my address it would be about 7 to 8 days, they said there's several shipping options. They said UPS and FEDEX was the fastest, they told me if my first order was $199.00 I would get free shipping.

I ordered once from them a couple of years ago because they carried a "click" Cigar Style kit that I couldn't find anywhere else. As previous comments talk about, the kits were relatively inexpensive but the shipping bill was more than the entire order. The kits arrived OK but getting registered and able to place the order was problematic. I think I wound up getting it done through emails with the company because I could never get their web site ordering to work for me. - Dave

My current concern is how much the tariff will be? If anyone has purchased from Pen Kits Mall since the removal of the de minimis, how much did that add to your cost?

The best way to do it is to get a group of people who are interested and then split the shipping cost. All the kits I have purchased have been the same quality as what you get from the big retailers here and have never had any issues with tube sizes.

I used to buy supplies from them all the time with no issues or unknowns. (Not pen kits because I found their quality in plating to be unpredictable, and the pen tubes weren't the same size as my bushings and drill bits). It was different this time. My last and final order with them was placed in March for some supplies, not kits ($700 order). I chose Air Express shipping ($175 - not the most expensive option) to save over $100, it took over three months to arrive. They said it was because of customs entering the USA. I'm guessing the tariffs were mixed in with the tax, shipping, payment commissions or prices because there wasn't anything to reflect tariffs on the bill and I never received a bill upon delivery.

Just my opinion…. These other companies sourcing through them doesn't mean they are paying the same price you will. I would expect they get better prices or discounts with the amounts they spend so to deal with the headache of arrival, tariffs and unknowns I'll just buy from a US company now. In my mind the little bit of savings isn't worth it.

Pretty much anything you buy is made in china. Pen Kits Mall provides good products and you are probably already buying them. Postage cost is an issue only if you are buying small amounts. Over $150 it's free. The are all listed in USD which is something to watch out for if you aren't buying in US.

Import taxes vary in every country. But remember your local suppliers have already paid for and added import duty and a profit margin.

Me personally I prefer to support local and in country suppliers for smaller orders because if we don't use them we lose them. They need to make a profit to stay in business.

I save bulk orders for Pen Kits Mall. Then postage doesn't matter. As for postage times, they aren't bad and are out of the suppliers control.
